SOGEVINUS FINE WINES HAS DECLARED SINGLE QUINTA VINTAGE PORT FOR KOPKE AND BURMESTER. THIS DECLARATION REINFORCES THE GROUP’S COMMITMENT TO THE PRODUCTION OF PREMIUM PORT WINES.

The 2012 Single Quinta Vintage Ports, with their unique quality, style and character, represent the finest wines produced in the Douro Valley and reflect the unparalleled richness of the terroir and perfection of the vineyards.

The 2012 viticultural year was characterised by a decrease in production, reaching unprecedented low yields. 2012 was also considered to be one of the driest years in the last forty and thus required additional efforts to ensure the correct balance and ripeness of the grapes.

An unusually dry winter was followed by a cool spring with some hail, resulting in damaged vineyards and a subsequent reduction of the total quantity produced. Strong winds and low temperatures were also registered causing delays in the vine’s growth cycle, with véraison occurring two weeks later than forecast. The low availability of water in the soil affected plant vitality, resulting in the occurrence of coulure and millerandage in some cases, particularly in the Baixo Corgo and Cima Corgo.

However, despite these unusual conditions, the results were surprisingly good at the most emblematic of the Sogevinus properties.  The 2012 Vintage Ports reveal a pronounced nose of very fresh and concentrated red and black fruit as well as a balanced acidity. Full bodied with a deeply concentrated opaque colour that is a sure sign of a young Single Quinta Vintage Port. Powerful wines that delight us while young, but above all, have the outstanding potential to age wonderfully in bottle. These are rare limited production releases that elevate and dignify Port Wine.

 TASTING NOTES

KOPKE QUINTA DE SÃO LUIZ VINTAGE 2012

Deep, opaque shade of red. Complex and expressive on the nose, where very ripe red and black fruit aromas stand out, enveloped in subtle balsamic notes and hints of chocolate. On the palate it is refined, marked by an excellent acidity balanced with very expressive tannins, which confer on it the character of the Vintages of the Kopke house. It has a long and powerful finish where ripe red fruit flavours and a striking acidity reveal that it is a Vintage Single Quinta. Huge ageing capacity.

BURMESTER QUINTA DO ARNOZELO VINTAGE 2012

Opaque colour with light violet hues. An elegant nose with a unique finesse characteristic of Single Quinta Burmester Vintages, revealing dense aromas of wild berries, violet notes, blackcurrant and a subtle touch of resin. On the palate it is fresh and delicate with elegant and fine tannins and develops in a balanced and surprising manner. A long and delicious finish with an excellent body. A fantastic wine from an absolutely unique wine estate. An endless fruit driven finish.
